Pattern for Crochet~~
2 Skeins of worsted yarn of your choice. About 300 yds or so.

Crochet a backpack and polish off with a pretty scarf ring...like here~~
Make a chain of 18 stitches with H hook.
Rnd 1 sc, 3 sc, 1 sc for 16, 3 sc in last loop 38 sc.
Rnd 2 17 sc, 3 sc nxt st, 18 sc, 3 sc in one, 1 sc, 42 st.
Rnd 3 18 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 19 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 2 sc in 1 sc, 1 sc, 46 sc.
Rnd 4 Continue pattern inc halfway around and at beginning to make 4 inc and 50 sc.
Rnd 5 same as 4, 54 st
Rnd 6 same as 4, 58 st
Rnd 7 same as 4, 62 st
Rnd 8 same as 4, 66 st
Rnd 9 same as 4, 72 st
Body Chain 73, hdc 2nd chain from hoot, hdc 71, ch 2 to count for final hdc
Rnd 2 hdc in ea hdc and chain 2 for 72 st
Rnd 3 through 28 repeat round 2
Fold body in half and sew sides, place body over base with seam in back of backpack, folding the base in half to make it easier attach to bottom of body with overcast stitch.
Turn bag right side out. Reinforce with more stitching if desired.
Make flap.
Ch 26
Row 1 Second ch from hook and sc around 25 sc
Row 2 through 12 repeat row 1
Row 13 decrease on sc at each end 23 sc
Row 14 dec on sc at each end 21
Repeat dec 2 on each row til Rnd 19 and 10 st remain. Fasten off.
Join yarn in left hand side facing you and crochet in sc for edging all around.
Attach flap to top edge of backpack back.
Make Pocket
Ch 21 and first row second ch from hook 20 sc
Row 2- 10 repeat at sc 20
Row 11- 15 dec until 10 st remain 2 sc on each row.
Flap for pocket
Ch 21 and first row second ch from hook 20 sc
repeat to row 3
Row 4-7, dec until 10 st remain 2 sc on each end
Crochet edging around pocket flap
Straps
Crochet 6 with 6 inch tail
Rnd 1 sc in 2nd ch, next 4 ch, 5 sc
Rw 2 -88 sc 5 across.
Make two.
Cord Ch 110, fasten off.
Place cord at center back seam inside bag, fold in half and attach by sewing on.
Handle
ch 30, sl st across, fasten off.
Attach pocket, attach pocket flap above. Attach button or snap on flap so pocket can be closed.
Weave cord toward from of bag under flap from center back, to make 2 drawstrings.
Add straps to lower edge of backpack in back, sew very securely, attach once more half way up and again at top edge.
Put handle (short piece) at either side of top bag flap at secure with sewing. (use yarn and a darning needle size 16.

You can use worsted weight to chunky and H to K hooks, if you use a soft worsted the backpack will be somewhat smaller. Experiment~KATHY
Plastic snaps for the flap pocket are great,they won't slice the yarn in the future and can be gotten at Clotilde. They are not very expensive.
