Holiday Sparkle Sweater

Easy to knit on large needles and the ties can be from scrap yarn.

Back:
Cast on 72 stitches, work 1 by 1 rib for 1 ¼ inches in dark green, change to off white yarn, knit another 8 inches, incorporate 2 1x 2 inch and 1 x 1 ¾ inch rectangles near the top of this section as in the picture. Finish with off white and change to dark green, knit with dark green 4 inches, knit across 72 stitches.


Knit one row at top of green area with off white, switch to red-silver, work 6 inches, bind off 3 26
on each armhole for sleeves. 66 stitches.
Continue to work red-silver for 2 more inches, switch to off white, work off white , incorporate 2 random 2 x 1 and 1 ½ z 1 rectangles in dark green, 2 ½ inches, bind off for neck
Bind off 24 stitches, leaving 42 stitches to divide at two shoulders into 21 stitches, work even on 21 - one row, then bind off one stitch on neck edge on each shoulder, 20 stitches at the shoulder. Work one more row, bind off. 20 stitches, 24 inches from beginning.
Tie a contrasting piece of yarn into the colorblocks by holding the yarn behind the face of the knit fabric and pulling it to the face with a crochet hook twice to get two tie ends, tie these in the center of the color block rectangles.










Silver and RED, Deep Green Blue, a spruce green color and cream make a cute holiday sweater.

Sleeves:
Right sleeve: Cast on 38 stitches with size 9 needles, work 1 by 1 rib stitch beginning with dark green, for two rows only, change to red-silver and work one inch more of rib. Stay on size 9 needles and go to stockinette stitch. Increase 3 stitches when length reaches 5 inches from cuff edge, work 5 more inches before increasing 3 stitches more. Increases are spaced across sleeve--44 stitches across, 10+ inches from beginning. The right sleeve has 7 squares of green, 3 medium and 4 very small, 3x4, 2x4, 2x3, 2--1x1, 1 1/2x1/2 and 1 -1 1/2 x 1 1/2 (e.g.1.5x1.5) in this order spaced 1 to 2 inches from one another with the tiniest 1/2x1/2 inch one four inches from the rest. After the first two blocks have been incorporated, about 4 more inches in sleeve length, increase 4 more stitches -- 2 at each edge--48 stitches.Add three more of the squares over the next 4 inches, --5 placed squares and 18 1/2 inches.

This is what makes the style cute, the scattered blocks on one sleeve and the V-shape following on the second sleeve.

Sleeve cap:


Front Body: Cast on 72 with size 8 needle and dark green color. Work 1x1 rib for 1 1/4 inches, then work 1 more inch without switching needles in stockinette, switch to size 9 needles and proceed in stockinette. Work 6 inches with 72 stitches across and then attach the red yarn in the center, decrease one stitch in center so that you have 35 stitches green st, 1 stitch off white, 35 stitches more of green across. Purl in the back and attach the red where the white knit was below. Keep working up the front with one knit row only of off white and red-silver beginning on the purl side of the front. Create a V design by moving up from the center white stitch one stitch every row on each side and keeping the green carried across the centered V-design for five inches. The design will have a layer of off white below several rows of red-silver. At five inches carry the white across straight and drop the green colored yarn on either (each) side of the front. Next row, a purl row, purl across in red-silver. The rest of the front is finished off in red-silver. The total length of the front and back portions of the sweater will be about 24 inches.


The Left Sleeve:
This is made like the front with a v'd insert of white and red-silver above the dark green lower portion and cuff. The V should start when the length of the sleeve reaches 10 inches. The total length of the sleeves will be about 22 1/2 inches.

Hats

Do you like Dick Tracy, Sherlock Holmes, actresses in romantic movies etc.?





This was supposed to be string crochet, but I used worsted, I like the effect. I made it smaller than a sun hat where the brim goes especially. I love it.

Another and slouchier one, with the brim clipped up on one side, to move around wherever you like the effect.

Requirements:
300 Yards of medium weight yarn and American Size H Crochet Hook.

Chain 5, join, make 8 sc into this ring, row two 2 sc around, mark, 16 sc, row 3-2 sc each st, mark, 32 sc, row 3- work even, row 4-work even, row 5-3 sc, 2 sc next stitch around-40 stitches, row six 4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch-48 stitches, increase every other row by sc three stitches and 2 sc 4th stitch around as in round 5. Mark each row/round and continue until 93 sc. Work rows 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 even-93 sc. Work sc in back loop of stitch all around-93 st. Work sc into whole stitch around-beginning BRIM-93 sc. Work 2 sc, next stitch 2 sc into that stitch-124 sc. Rounds 3,4 and 5 work even-124 sc stitches. Round 6, 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, mark with clip or contrast yarn scrap-155 sc. Row/rounds 7,8,9,work even- 155 sc. Tie off for derby with turned brim. Put a fastener such as a clip, snap or button of your choice in one place to flip up sexily.

Embellished floral hat-like Kate Middleton- At round 10 and 75 sc, finish row, for row 11 work even, ROW 12, 4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch around until you have 82 stitches sc. Mark place. Work rows 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 even-82 sc. Work sc in back loop of stitch all around-82 st. Work sc into whole stitch around-beginning BRIM-82 sc. Work 2 sc,  3 sc into next stitch 3 times, work 2 sc, 2sc next two stitches 4 times-122 sc. Rounds 3,4 and 5 work even-122 sc stitches. Round 6, 3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch, mark with clip or contrast yarn scrap inc in two of the stitches so the end stitch count equals 155-155 sc. Row/rounds 7,8,9, *10, 11 and 12 work even-155sc. Work row 13, 4 sc, 2 sc next stutch all around -186 stitches. Row/rounds 14, 15 and 16 work even-186 sc stitches. Round 17, sc 5, 2 sc into next stitch all around-217 sc. Row 18 and 19 work even-217 sc. Tie off. Wrap cord, yarn strands (about 8 strands at 15 inches long) around the hat just above the brim, tie a bow and leave its tail free. Put your silk flowers in the center of this bow knot. Sew into place. You can leave the band strip loose around the rest of the hat, since this will hold it on as you attach the flowers.

Cool Effects

Get a toy canteen, fill it with water. Put the whole thing in the freezer, store until frozen into a block.




Hang it around your neck at the pool or in the back yard to cool off, sip it too. As long as it's frozen solid it stays icy cold for several hours. You can use it anytime elsewise too such as in the car and so on.
