Holiday Sparkle Sweater

Easy to knit on large needles and the ties can be from scrap yarn.

Back:
Cast on 72 stitches, work 1 by 1 rib for 1 ¼ inches in dark green, change to off white yarn, knit another 8 inches, incorporate 2 1x 2 inch and 1 x 1 ¾ inch rectangles near the top of this section as in the picture. Finish with off white and change to dark green, knit with dark green 4 inches, knit across 72 stitches.

Knit one row at top of green area with off white, switch to red-silver, work 6 inches, bind off 3 26
on each armhole for sleeves. 66 stitches.
Continue to work red-silver for 2 more inches, switch to off white, work off white , incorporate 2 random 2 x 1 and 1 ½ z 1 rectangles in dark green, 2 ½ inches, bind off for neck
Bind off 24 stitches, leaving 42 stitches to divide at two shoulders into 21 stitches, work even on 21 - one row, then bind off one stitch on neck edge on each shoulder, 20 stitches at the shoulder. Work one more row, bind off. 20 stitches, 24 inches from beginning.
Tie a contrasting piece of yarn into the colorblocks by holding the yarn behind the face of the knit fabric and pulling it to the face with a crochet hook twice to get two tie ends, tie these in the center of the color block rectangles.

Silver and RED, Deep Green Blue, a spruce green color and cream make a cute holiday sweater.

Sleeves:
Right sleeve: Cast on 38 stitches with size 9 needles, work 1 by 1 rib stitch beginning with dark green, for two rows only, change to red-silver and work one inch more of rib. Stay on size 9 needles and go to stockinette stitch. Increase 3 stitches when length reaches 5 inches from cuff edge, work 5 more inches before increasing 3 stitches more. Increases are spaced across sleeve--44 stitches across, 10+ inches from beginning. The right sleeve has 7 squares of green, 3 medium and 4 very small, 3x4, 2x4, 2x3, 2--1x1, 1 1/2x1/2 and 1 -1 1/2 x 1 1/2 (e.g.1.5x1.5) in this order spaced 1 to 2 inches from one another with the tiniest 1/2x1/2 inch one four inches from the rest. After the first two blocks have been incorporated, about 4 more inches in sleeve length, increase 4 more stitches -- 2 at each edge--48 stitches.Add three more of the squares over the next 4 inches, --5 placed squares and 18 1/2 inches.

This is what makes the style cute, the scattered blocks on one sleeve and the V-shape following on the second sleeve.

Sleeve cap:

Front Body: Cast on 72 with size 8 needle and dark green color. Work 1x1 rib for 1 1/4 inches, then work 1 more inch without switching needles in stockinette, switch to size 9 needles and proceed in stockinette. Work 6 inches with 72 stitches across and then attach the red yarn in the center, decrease one stitch in center so that you have 35 stitches green st, 1 stitch off white, 35 stitches more of green across. Purl in the back and attach the red where the white knit was below. Keep working up the front with one knit row only of off white and red-silver beginning on the purl side of the front. Create a V design by moving up from the center white stitch one stitch every row on each side and keeping the green carried across the centered V-design for five inches. The design will have a layer of off white below several rows of red-silver. At five inches carry the white across straight and drop the green colored yarn on either (each) side of the front. Next row, a purl row, purl across in red-silver. The rest of the front is finished off in red-silver. The total length of the front and back portions of the sweater will be about 24 inches.

The Left Sleeve:
This is made like the front with a v'd insert of white and red-silver above the dark green lower portion and cuff. The V should start when the length of the sleeve reaches 10 inches. The total length of the sleeves will be about 22 1/2 inches.

After the first two blocks have been incorporated, about 4 more inches in sleeve length, increase 4 more stitches -- 2 at each edge--48 stitches. Add 3 more of the squares over the next 4 inches, --5 placed squares and 18 1/2 inches.
