Sage Green Sweater in Sand Stitch

3 Skeins Red Heart Super Saver 5 0z. Size

Cast on 80 stitches with size 9 needles, work 1x1 ribbing for 2 1/2 inches change to size 11 needle (or 10 1/2 if you prefer) and increase 2 st on each side for a total of 84 stitches. Work in Sand track pattern til armholes, about 18 inches, then decrease 5 stitches for each armhole keeping pattern (just omit end stitches) work armhole for 8 inches and then cast off stitches for back neck, bind off center 24 stitches at first row and then one more stitch each side on the row after next, make this about 1 inch for the back neckline then bind off both shoulder, keeping the pattern as before the armholes or neckline binding off. In the front, work to the sleeves the same way, only at the length of 6 inches bind off for front neck, bind off 16 stitches and then 2 total stitches per row every other row at the ends until you have bound off 24 stitches, work this until the neck depth is deeper than the back neck by 2 inches and then bind off shoulders.

Sleeves: Cast on 27 stitches with size 9 needles, make a 2 1/2 inch 1x1 rib as with the front and back, increase to 36 stitches on first row while changing needles to size 11 and work for 2 inches, increase over next 3 rows to 48 stitches (2 stitches at each side), keeping the pattern (shown below) at all times the ends may need to be divided as the pattern is in multiples of 12, just if you are working with 6 stitches, work with 6 stitches until the next set of increases is complete. Work this for 4 inches, the sleeves will now be 8 1/2 inches including the cuff, about at the elbow, increase over the next 6 rows to 72 stitches (2 stitches at each side) keep working until the sleeve measures 19 inches (the cuffs will be longer than average), then bind off 5-6 stitches on each side whichever is easier to keep the pattern counted for you. Make a cap by knitting about 1 1/2 inches before decreasing 2 stitches on each side until you have 30 stitches left, bind off. Keep the pattern through, dividing the ends to match the stitches below.

Crochet around neck edge single crochet to finish and keep pattern from stretching too much.
